Comprehensive College Planning Package

The college application and decision process can be a wild ride full of unexpected and sometimes stressful steps along the way. Through College Unlimited’s Comprehensive Planning Package, we help you navigate and demystify the college admissions process at every turn.

We recognize that each student is unique, and our process is customized to meet your student’s specific needs. Highlights of our Comprehensive Package are below.

Before Senior Year (9th – 11th)

INITIAL MEETING TO DISCUSS OVERALL COLLEGE OUTLOOK

  • Begin plan of action
  • Develop understanding of initial college thoughts. Discussion of financial aid needs and opportunities
  • Testing schedule discussion (10th-11th)
  • Transcript review and course planning
  • Discussion of the college application process (11th)

COLLEGE PREPARATION SESSIONS

  • Develop in-depth understanding of interests and potential career pursuits
  • Discussion of how to think about your college years
  • High school course and activity planning
  • Summer experience discussion
  • Student resume strategy—background, interests, accomplishments, leadership
  • Typically meet quarterly with unlimited access for questions
  • Advice on how to collect important letters of recommendation

DEVELOPMENT OF COLLEGE LIST (10th-11th)

  • Review and refine with student/parents—strategic list based on student and family needs
  • Work with student on narrowing list to find best fit
  • Educate student on how to research colleges
  • Discussion on planning and maximizing value of college visits
  • Advice on demonstrating interest

Senior Year

JULY – DECEMBER

ESSAY DEVELOPMENT PROCESS (Summer before 12th – 12th)

  • Brainstorm essay topics and hone essay choices
  • Review drafts of personal statement and supplemental essays, and provide feedback and direction

APPLICATION PROCESS (Begins August 1 of 12th)

  • Create specific timeline with action steps for applications
  • Demystify common app and coalition app for accurate and timely completion
  • Manage application completion and timeline with student
  • Help to stay on top of deadlines (meeting application deadlines are the responsibility of the student)
  • Continued college visit discussion and list refinement

REVIEW APPLICATIONS (12th)

  • Review for completion and accuracy
  • STUDENT submits applications

JANUARY – APRIL

DISCUSS AND ANALYZE ACCEPTANCES (12th)

  • Review acceptance choices and help direct decision if necessary
  • Advice on strategic communications with admissions officers during process and potential deferral and waitlist situations
  • Open discussion of remaining needs

**For those that do not want to engage in a comprehensive relationship, hourly advising is available upon request.
